How To Find Us

Four different routes are described below to help you find Woolstone. Click on one of the following links for more information:

Route 1: Woolstone from M4 J15 (Swindon East)

Of the two route described here for finding Woolstone from M4 J15, this is the quicker route, although it is a few miles longer. This route is approximately 12 miles, and will take 20-25 minutes.

  1. From M4 J15 take A419 north (to Swindon, Cirencester, Oxford).
  2. After 3.3 miles, exit left leaving the A419, follow signs for A420 Oxford.
  3. At the roundabout take the second turn (right) to Oxford.
  4. In 0.2 miles at the large roundabout take the third exit to Oxford A420.
  5. In 0.2 miles take the second exit at the roundabout (straight across) and continue to follow the A420 towards Oxford for 5 miles (speed cameras!), through the “railway chicane” and around Shrivenham to the “Watchfield Roundabout”.
  6. At the “Watchfield Roundabout” take 2nd exit (right) signed B4508 to Longcot.
  7. After 1.2 miles, at the crossroads go straight across (Knighton, Compton Beauchamp, Woolstone).
  8. After 0.9 miles continue under the railway bridge.
  9. After 0.8 miles take the first turning right (Marsh Way) to Woolstone.
  10. Follow Marsh Way for 0.8 miles and arrive in the centre of the village just after a sharp left hand bend.

Route 2: Woolstone from M4 J15 (Swindon East)

Of the two route described here for finding Woolstone from M4 J15, this is the shorter and prettier of the two routes, although the other route is normally the quicker of the two. This route is just over 9 miles, and will take 25-30 minutes.

  1. From M4 J15 take A419 north (to Swindon, Cirencester, Oxford).
  2. After 0.7 miles, take the exit on the left to the “Commonhead Roundabout”.
  3. At the roundabout take the third exit (right), signed to Wanborough.
  4. Follow the road for 5.5 miles as it winds through the villages of Wanborough (then over the crossroads to...), Hinton Parva, Bishopstone, Idstone and eventually reaches Ashbury.
  5. At the Ashbury crossroads, go straight across on to the B4507 signed to Wantage.
  6. After 2.3 miles take a left turn signed to Woolstone [Opposite is a right turn to Uffington White Horse].
  7. Head downhill into the village and after 0.4 miles reach the T-junction in the centre of the village.

Route 3: Woolstone from Oxford/A34

The route is approximately 20 miles and will take 30-35 minutes.

  1. From the A34, “Botley Interchange”, take the A420 signed in the direction of Bristol & Swindon.
  2. After 10.5 miles (after the end of the third section of dual carriageway), turn left off the A420 on to the B4508 to Pusey.
  3. Follow the road for 3.8 miles through Pusey, Gainfield and Hatfield to reach the junction at the A417.
  4. At the junction turn right and immediatly left to rejoin the B4508.
  5. Follow the B4508 for 2.2 miles through Shellingford and towards Fernham.
  6. Before reaching Fernham turn sharp left off the B4508 towards Uffington.
  7. In 1.9 miles reach Uffington village. At the junction turn right signed to Woolstone, White Horse Hill, Ashbury.
  8. In 200 yds turn right signed to Woolstone.
  9. In 400 yds turn left signed to Woolstone.
  10. Follow the road for 0.8 miles to arrive in the centre of the village just after a sharp right hand bend.

Route 4: Woolstone from M4/J14 (Hungerford)

This route is approximately 15 miles, and will take 20-25 minutes.

  1. From M4 J14 take A338 north (Wantage).
  2. After 300 yds take B4000 left (Lambourn, Cricklade).
  3. After 3 miles, at a dip on the road, take the B4000 right (Lambourn, Childrey) - this is easy to miss!
  4. After 2 miles immediately on entering Lambourn take the B4000 left (Upper Lambourn, Ashbury, Shrivenham).
  5. After 200m, at the junction, take the B4000 right (Upper Lambourn, Ashbury, Shrivenham).
  6. After 300m, at the junction, take B4000 left (Upper Lambourn, Ashbury, Shrivenham).
  7. Follow the road for 6 miles, over the Ridgeway and down the hill into Ashbury.
  8. Immediately (!) on entering Ashbury take B4507 right (Wantage, Uffington White Horse).
  9. After 2.3 miles take a left turn signed to Woolstone [Opposite right turn to Uffington White Horse].
  10. Head downhill into the village and after 0.4 miles reach the T-junction in the centre of the village.
