Rights of Way - BOAT1

The DM&S describes BOAT 1 as:

"from Compton Beauchamp Parish boundary at Compton Beauchamp BY12, North of Hardwell Farm, North to Claypit Lane near Cowleaze Farm"

General Condition Reasonably good - mostly grassy underfoot.
Length 500yds
Navigation Problems None
Stiles, gates or other obstacles At the southern end there is a wooden bridge accessed through a gate. One of the planks is missing from the bridge

The byway known as Hardwell Lane stretches from Claypit Lane in the north to the B4507 Ashbury/Wantage road in the south. However the majority of the byway lies within the parish of Compton Beauchamp. Only the northern section of the byway is within the parish of Woolstone and it is that part that forms BOAT 1.

The northern end of BOAT 1 starts from Claypit Lane opposite the water tower at Cowleaze Farm. The start of the path is easily found, and clearly signed. Heading south, the byway follows the ditch and hedge on the right hand side. In 250yds the bears slightly left and the ditch widens.

Roughly 250 yds further on the track turns through a gap in the hedge on the right, through a gate on to a wooden bridge over the ditch. This marks the point at which the track leaves the parish of Woolstone and enters the parish of Compton Beauchamp.

The track continues for approximately 0.8 miles to reach the B4507 Ashbury/Wantage road.
