Waste Collection & Recycling

Since October 2010, the District Council introduced new waste collection procedures which provide for a weekly collection of food waste and fortnightly collections of rubbish and recycling on alternative weeks. Full details are available on the Vale of White Horse District Council site.

For Woolstone, waste collection takes place on Monday each week - alternate weeks are designated as "grey" or "green" weeks. Food waste and rubbish is collected on grey weeks, food waste and recycling is collected on green weeks.

The following calendar is provided by the District Council and details which weeks are grey weeks and which are green weeks, and the different arrangements that apply around some of the bank holidays during the remainder of 2011.

Post There are two postboxes in the village. One is in Lower Woolstone opposite the end of The Lane. The other is in Upper Woolstone outside the White Horse Inn. Collection times are: Mon-Fri: 16:30, Sat: 10:15 (Upper Woolstone) & 10:30 (Lower Woolstone). There are no collections on Sundays or Bank Holidays.
Water Properties in the village are supplied with water from either or both of the following:
  • from the local spring, known as Woolstone Wells. Contact Jeremy Twynam: 01367 820222.
  • Thames Water - supply problems can be reported via their Customer Services Helpline: 0845 9200 800
Sewerage There is no mains drainage within the village. All properties will have either a sewage holding tank, requiring the occassional "pump-out", or a more active processing system such as a Klargester to treat the sewage prior to dispersal via the watercourse (and of course to ensure the stream is kept clean !)
Gas There is no supply of mains gas within the village
Police Thames Valley Police can be contacted on 0845 8 505 505. Alternatively call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
Bus Services The x47 Service from Swindon-Wantage stops in Woolstone, although the service runs only on Saturdays. Service 67 runs between Faringdon and Wantage via Uffington (but not Woolstone).
